Intuit Index:40,000 new Small Business jobs in July

without comments

The country’s unemployment rate is often seen as an indicator of economic growth, and the latest forecasts continue to show signs of a modest and yet steady recovery as the nation continues to add SMB jobs. According to Intuit’s July Small Business Employment Index, small businesses with fewer than 20 employees continued to hire this month, after an upward trend that began in mid-2009.

As the nation’s leading small business payroll provider, Intuit’s Small Business Employment Index offers insights into the unique employment trends of the nation’s small businesses. The Index is based on Intuit Online Payroll data from approximately 57,000 small businesses.

The July Index shows:

  • Nearly 333,000 new jobs created since October 2009 and 40,000 new jobs created in July.
  • Compensation grew by 0.7 percent in July and now is $2,624 per month, compared to $2,577 per month in May.
  • Monthly hours worked increased by 0.9 percent in June, to 109.1 hours.

10 Companies Making A Killing After Laying Off Their Employees

    without comments

    Ford CEO

Here are the 10 Companies Making A Killing After Laying Off Their Employees:

    1. Ford
    2. Siemens
    3. Xerox
    4. Sallie Mae
    5. BASF
    6. Wells Fargo
    7. Microsoft
    8. Pfizer
    9. Hewlett-Packard
    10. Bank of America

In the age of the Worker Widget, people are just “resources”. They can be hired when work needs to be done or laid off when profits need to rise.

Sure, bloated businesses may need to lay off workers, but that doesn’t mean it was right to hire them with that mentality in the first place.

It would pay for American business management to read Deming’s book Out of the Crisis. When number crunching managers think the solution to their crisis is to send their employees into their own personal crisis, that’s wrong. They justify it by saying “we have to think of others”. Yes, perhaps so, but they should have thought of that before.

The 14 points of Deming’s Management strategy lead to an environment that fosters life time employment instead of considering employees as “resources” to the thrown away as necessary.

The deadly diseases of “management” that violate Demings’ principles are one of the main reasons for the systematic decimation of the Middle Class. It’s sickening really and the reason I hope to be something of a “Small Business Advocate” … our society needs to change. We do indeed need to Rebuild Christian (or at least “humane”) society!

    Rant ended for now.

“This will be the Bible of Network Marketing.”
    — Doug Wead, former special assistant to the president, the Bush AdministrationTo listen to its proponents, network (or multilevel) marketing is the greatest thing since sliced bread: top performers earn million a month, reside in alluring places like Aspen and Kauai, and still find quality time to happily raise children and lovingly cement spousal relationships. Contending that those who fail to make it that far are ill prepared for the initial challenges they face, Mark Yarnell and Rene Reid Yarnell–married network marketers who are among the industry’s leaders, as well as members of a University of Illinois faculty that teaches the only college-certified course on the subject in the U.S.–have written Your First Year in Network Marketing: Overcome Your Fears, Experience Success, and Achieve Your Dreams! to convey both advice and inspiration to newcomers. Peppered with personal anecdotes that bring their recommendations to life, the two offer logical strategies for overcoming rookie obstacles and kick starting a career. Individual chapters explore issues such as battling rejection, avoiding depression, handling prospects, supervising recruits, and managing time. Each concludes with a comprehensive summary, but save it for later reference and don’t skip the preceding narrative, or you risk missing the book’s considerable motivational component. –Howard Rothman
